It's no surprise that everyone wants great lips. Lips start a conversation, show affection with kissing and display our attitude with a smile: So of course, we want to put our best lips forward! Here are a few ways to do that.
Lip Fillers: Lip fillers are very common and there are many options. Some are thicker and give a more luscious look and some have smaller particles and line the lips to give a more refined highlight that pops. Newer fillers like Restylane's Refyne and Defyne products have increased flexibility so that the product looks more natural with animation. An experienced provider can help you pick what filler is best for you, whether it is the Restylane® or Juvederm® family of filler products. In our office lip fillers are often injected after applying topical numbing medication to minimize discomfort. It is possible to have some temporary bruising and swelling, but there is no downtime with the procedure.
Surgery: A surgical lip lift uses a virtually invisible incision hidden under the nose to shorten the philtrum (the white part of the lip). This rotates the lip up and out, showing more of the red lip and giving that full and beautiful lip shape. It can also help turn up the corners of the mouth and turn that frown upside down. This is great for patients who were born with a long upper lip or when the lip completely hides the upper teeth. It is also often combined with facelifts as MRI studies have shown that the white portion of the upper lip becomes thinner and longer with age. A surgical lip lift is an outpatient procedure that can be done under local anesthesia in 30-40 minutes and the results are permanent.
