Let’s Gab About Flab and Learn How a Tummy Tuck is Right for You!
Oftentimes, our belly area is the place we carry most of the fat on our body, whether male or female. A well-toned, flat abdomen is a goal for many, but sometimes exercise and diet aren’t the answer. At Hass Plastic Surgery in Wellington and Palm Beach Gardens Tummy Tucks, or "Abdominoplasty" is available for women and men in West Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter, Palm Beach, Wellington, and the surrounding areas of Florida.
Sculpt. Slim. Smooth.
Even people in relatively good shape can have a belly that protrudes, or they may have looseness and sagging to the skin. Generally, this is caused by weight changes, pregnancies, past surgeries in that area, age, and even hereditary makeup. If you have any of these concerns, then the tummy tuck, called abdominoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure you should consider. The Tummy Tuck incision is placed along the lower abdomen and extends out to the sides above the groin. It can incorporate a previous C-section scar and be designed to fit in the bikini line area depending on the patient.
Many patients are nervous about the scarring, but with our aftercare and scar guard protection recommendations, we find our patients heal beautifully, and the trade-off for a flat stomach is well worth the minimal scarring. Your Palm Beach Gardens Tummy Tuck surgery involves the separation of skin and fat from the underlying tissues which then allows the doctor to tighten muscles and remove excess skin to yield a flatter, firmer, and more curvaceous figure. The belly button does not particularly move, but the skin is pulled down and fits around it appropriately, making scarring virtually unnoticeable. The excess skin and fat from the tummy area are removed, and some minor liposuction can be performed at the flank and hip area to give a full contoured look, front and back.
Your Personalized Solution to Your Concerns
A person who has extra, stretched, or loose abdominal skin is a good candidate for a stomach tuck. Pregnancy, massive weight loss, or injury contribute to the stretching of the skin and weak abdominal muscles. Many of our male patients who have lost a large amount of weight realize that a tummy tuck treatment is the missing link and choose abdominoplasty to restore their body image. With a Tummy Tuck Palm Beach Gardens patients often combine the procedure with liposuction to get remarkable results. Breast augmentation and breast lift are sometimes included in our female patients' post-pregnancy procedures to complete their new body image and are known as a Mommy Makeover. For Your Ideal Shape
Patients generally know if they need a Tummy Tuck to correct their abdomen. However, we always make sure you are in good health and that this is the surgery for you. For some, other body contouring procedures such as liposuction or CoolSculpting (freezing the fat) can help with problem bulges, but these will not tighten skin or muscles. Keep in mind that patients should be at a stable weight, have realistic expectations, be a non-smoker, and should no longer be nursing a child.
Other medical clearances that may be needed can be discussed at a consultation. Remember, this surgery is NOT a substitute for weight loss, nor will it cure visceral fat underneath the belly muscle. It is also NOT necessarily a cure for stretch marks unless they are located on the area of the belly that will be excised during surgery. Women who think they may want more children may want to postpone the Tummy Tuck, as the results will be diminished by more stretching and weight gain and loss.
Tummy tuck surgery is an outpatient operation that takes between two and four hours to complete. However, the amount of time varies on if additional surgical operations, such as breast augmentation and liposuction, are done at the same time. Your surgeon will make incisions to mend and tighten muscles, remove extra skin and fat, and relocate your belly button for a more symmetrical look. To decrease swelling, you must wear the binding garment 24 hours a day (except when bathing) for four weeks after surgery.
After Your Procedure
The recovery from a Tummy Tuck is somewhat uncomfortable for the first few days, although we are always pleasantly surprised by some patients who tell us “it’s not as bad as they thought.” Certainly, pain medications are prescribed, but most patients find they are off those within days. In some cases, the doctors will recommend patients have overnight care for the first night or two; however, patients generally go home (or to a nearby hotel) with family members or an overnight nurse following their recovery in our center. We do suggest when planning for the procedure, you include at least two weeks off from work —(even if working from home), heavy social commitments, and responsibilities. An important part of recovery is resting! It will only maximize your results.
Our Hass team will review all the important post-op instructions with patients prior to the Tummy Tuck. We can’t say it enough, but it is very important for patients to have a two-week period where they can truly relax, not be overly committed to work, even if from home, or do any strenuous activity. This does not mean the patient is restricted to bed rest, but rather they should get up and take short walks and continue with some daily routines to help lower the risk of blood clots. Our patients will wear a firm elastic garment and foam padding around their abdomen for at least four weeks after surgery to minimize swelling and give them support. With our doctors’ superb technique and utilization of the post-op garment, patients will not have to go home with removable fluid drains.
Transform your life.
You may notice rapid changes in your size and form, but owing to swelling, it may take up to three months to see the complete results. The incision scars take roughly a year to diminish, but they will continue to improve over time.
your health and goals
At your consultation, our team will review the specifics of the procedure for your new look. We will help determine the best procedure for you and evaluate your health and lifestyle goals to make sure this is the right timing for your Tummy Tuck. Remember, any plastic surgery is highly individualized and should be considered for yourself, not to meet someone else’s desires of what you should look like.

The procedure gives permanent results. While patients will continue to age, the results generally last a lifetime, with few patients needing a second tummy tuck unless they gain and lose significant amounts of weight or have another child after their first Tummy Tuck.
The typical Tummy Tuck removes extra skin from the abdomen, and only the fat from under that skin is removed, not visceral fat below your belly muscle area. If a patient has extra skin and extra fat on the flanks, a tummy tuck can easily be combined with liposuction to shape and contour the abdomen and flanks to give the best figure possible.
Yes! Some patients who decide to have a baby after a Tummy Tuck will find they have extra skin after delivery and may want a repeat tummy tuck; however, many do not. Most patients will delay a tummy tuck until they have finished having children.
Tummy tucks leave a scar along the lower abdomen that is well hidden by a bathing suit and underwear. It fades over time, and we use several techniques to ensure patients’ scars heal optimally.
Patients can (and should) walk on the day of surgery. Light, low impact exercise such as a gentle walk is ok at four weeks after surgery, with the resumption of intense exercise and yoga at eight weeks.
